McDonald’s @ Jurong Central Park

Surrounded by the greenery of Jurong Central Park, McDonald’s Jurong Central Park extends the surrounding landscape into its restaurant through vertical greenery. Existing concrete columns within the outdoor dining area are wrapped with planting, transforming otherwise hard architectural elements into living green features.

Rather than introducing conventional flat green walls, the greenery follows the form of the existing columns. This retains the openness of the outdoor dining space and allows customers to continue enjoying views towards the surrounding park while bringing vegetation closer to the restaurant itself.

The planting palette was selected with the site's shaded conditions and the long-term sustainability of the vertical gardens in mind. Shade-tolerant plants with rich foliage provide variation in form, texture and colour across the columns.

Species include Philodendron hederaceum, Chlorophytum comosum cultivars, Heptapleurum arboricola, Dracaena reflexa, Aglaonema ‘Red Master’, Syngonium ‘White Butterfly’ and Tradescantia spathacea.

The resulting vertical greenery complements the surrounding park landscape and creates a distinctive outdoor dining environment where architecture and greenery are more closely integrated.
